I have an upcoming show in February 2012 exhibiting with Cathy Weiszmann at A-M Gallery, Newtown. Cathy is a fantastic sculptor who makes lovely intimate figurative sculptures. You can see more of her work on her blog.
I'll be showing some recent oil paintings that I've ben working on. Over the last 12 months my paintings have been influenced by the Police and Justice Museum photographs from the Sydney police of the 1920s showcased in 2 exhibitions - City of Shadows, and Crooks like us. These exhibitions featured forensic photography and mugshots of Sydney's criminal underbelly.
I've been focused on creating headscapes of the people, trying to capture the individuality of their relationship to the camera. There was little posing, and people rarely smiled, but these photos are a strangely revealing look at Sydney's criminal class.
